Sex and the City actress Sarah Jessica Parker spent nearly a decade of her life as Carrie Bradshaw, the fashion savvy sex columnist. Now, she dons the cover of Harpers Bazaar’s biggest fashion issue where she discusses her life post-Carrie.
Parker appears to have channeled her HBO hit character in the photoshoot, sporting crazy head-pieces, Oscar de la Rent and Gucci gowns along with her signature smile.
In the issue, however, Parker discusses moving past her role as a fashion icon telling Harper’s Bazaar that these days she’s "not into fashion as people expect me to be."
She explains, according to USA Today, that her life is all about being a wife to husband of 16 years, Matthew Broderick and mother to 10-year-old James Wilkie and four-year-old twins Tabitha Hodge and Marian Loretta.
“Matthew and I come from a different time and place. When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors,” she states. “We didn't think of fame or money because, honestly, money was never part of the dream. It was to work in theater, to be around those people whose work I was in total awe of. I never saw the trappings; nobody talked about being a celebrity.”
She adds, “So when our marriage came up in conversation, it wouldn't occur to us that we were obligated to respond to allegations or gossip. You have to be a bit circumspect, but you also have to take up a position, and you have to stick to it."
Still despite the gossip and the media obsession with getting into the personal lives of her and her fellow actor husband, Parker can’t help but to simply gush about Broderick.
"There's also the reality of your life. I love Matthew Broderick. Call me crazy, but I love him,” she gushes. “We can only be in the marriage we are. We're very devoted to our family and our lives. I love our life. I love that he's the father of my children, and it's because of him that there's this whole other world that I love."
The September issue of Harper's Bazaar hits news stands August 20.
