Daniel Radcliffe has branched out since his days as Harry Potter in the internationally famous film franchise of the same name, gracing the stage in dramatic adult theatrical roles and trying out new hobbies, including playing bongo drums.
“He was running about the place, having a great party, but was bumping into people and the walls,” an eyewitness from a London club told The Sun of the 24-year-old’s night out.
The actor joined friends at Chelsea club Embargo 59, jamming out on the bongo drums with other percussionists. Though onlookers considered Radcliffe’s behavior to be bizarre, perhaps the actor was just blowing off steam following an exhausting stage performance of The Cripple of Inishmann , which runs until August 31.
The physical toll the role has played on Radcliffe’s mind and body has had friends and fans concerned, but a representative for the star insists he is fine.
“I am really bad at booking in nice breaks,” Radcliffe has admitted in the past. “I had four days off when I went away with a couple of friends to Cornwall a few months ago. I was trying to work out with someone the other day when the last time was that I stopped working for more than two weeks. It is beyond living memory. To be honest, I like it this way. I have always had very structured time since the age of ten.”
In addition performing a grueling eight shows a week, Radcliffe is also filming Horns , an indie film about a boy who awakes to find horns emerging from his forehead. The young actor’s costar Juno Temple tells E! News that the actor is often in good spirits on set.
"There was one take where there was quite a complicated shot and we had to keep redoing it to get the shot right," the British actress said. "We had to open with me laughing and Daniel must have told me 20 to 25 jokes. It was insane. I didn't know somebody had that many jokes. It was genius. He's a stand-up comic."
Maybe Radcliffe should take Temple’s suggestion seriously and try his material in comedy clubs. After all, the actor says he is looking for new skills to hone, which apparently includes the bongo drums.
“I don't know when the last time was I had a holiday,” he said. “I am now actively trying to develop other interests!”
