SyFy is moving ahead with plans to turn Terry Gilliam’s 1995 sci-fi film 12 Monkeys into a series. The network has given the project a pilot order, a month after news broke about the project’s development.
Last month, it was reported that the 12 Monkeys series was close to getting the green light, but the network didn’t put in the pilot order until Monday, notes Deadline. The cast-contingent pilot will be just 60-minutes and it will be a Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment co-production.
Terra Nova team Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett wrote the pilot, which will focus on a time traveler from a post-apocalyptic future who shows up in the present in an attempt to stop the cause of his time’s destruction.
Charles Roven, who produced Gilliam’s film with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt, will executive produce with Richard Suckle. The writing team will co-executive produce with Brian Lutz.
SyFy’s other projects in the works includes the Wizard of Oz inspired Warriors of Oz, Dominion (which is getting a 90-minute pilot) and Proof from M. Night Shyamalan.
