A die hard Taylor Swift fan is being charged with trespassing on the “I Knew You Were Trouble” singers Rhode Island property after he allegedly tried to slip her security team a note which contained his phone number.
Joseph Bermatche, 55, appeared in court Friday to respond to charges of trespassing, E! News reports. Bermatche’s lawyer, Michael Robinson, refutes the claims, telling E!, “He was trying to pass a note to the security guard to give presumably to Ms. Swift.”
"I think they overreacted a little bit and I think they wanted to quash the situation. There was an allegation he trespassed...but the arresting officer took him into custody before an investigation was actually conducted,” he continued.
Robinson also states that his client parked in a driveway near Swift’s home and the only time he actually walked onto the property was to deliver the note. “No, he wasn't on her property. But he did pass a note and they found the note disturbing and immediately assumed the worse," he notes.
Robinson defends that his client is a pleasant man who would cause no harm. However, Bermatche has been issued a no trespasser warning following a visit he paid to the singer in April.
According to OMG!, Bermatche is scheduled to return to court September 6.
