"Red Team III" finally answers the question: What happened with Genoa?
The episode begins with Don being questioned by Rebecca in the infamous conference room. He begs her to explain to him why they are being sued when everything should be on Jerry. In fact, Jerry is the one who is suing the network for 'wrongful termination.' Rebecca points out that even though Jerry had the major flaw, the rest of the team did not catch it before it was aired. This explanation leads the episode to the final Red Team meeting.
The episode then lays out the seven sources and how each is consistent. They debate on airing the episode as they go through the information. After going through each source, Will reveals that he has been aware of this story from a source that he can not reveal. Jim, Neal, Sloan, and Don are not so sure about the story, but Will trusts Charlie and Mac. Genoa is set to air.
The Genoa report begins and everyone is on edge. It goes smoothly, but Charlie receives a call right after the broadcast from an enraged Stomtonovich claiming the footage was tampered with. Charlie, Mac, and Will discuss how he probably just got cold feet and that they should just ignore his claims.
Will is watching a football game when Mac inquires about the shot clock. Will explains what it is and which sports (including basketball) use it. Obviously this information will come in handy for Mac.
The following morning, Charlie informs Will that the Genoa show had over 5 million viewers. Meanwhile, everyone is wondering why the Department of Defense has made no comment. Eventually, ANC gets an email from the Department of Defense and it was not exactly what they were expecting. While they thought they would get some backlash, the email stated they would be taking legal action against the false allegations. Everyone still says that they stand by the story, but you can tell that some are having doubts.
ACN decided to continue reporting on Genoa that night on Elliott's show. This time one of the sources, Sweeney, is live on the air. He accidentally let it slip that he has suffered from a brain injury thats main symptom is memory loss. The first source's credibility is shot.
The team is told to go over every inch of the story and the doubt becomes more apparent. Mac begins questioning herself and her interview with the last source. She reads over the transcript of the interview and we see that there were several leading questions. Another source becomes questionable.
Charlie goes to meet with his source in hopes he can put his doubting mind at ease. Shep, the source, opens up the meeting showing pictures of his son. It is revealed that Shep's son worked at ACN and was fired just before he died. Shep has been blaming Charlie for his death for years and has been waiting for an opportunity to get back at him. He tells Charlie to hold the document under a light to get the real story. The document actually reads, "F*ck you Charlie." There goes another source.
The crew begins to chase the Benghazi story which is just starting to unravel. Mac deides to check the "original" footage" of Jerry's interview one last time and notices that the shot clock is off. Finally! She immediately fires Jerry and goes into Will's office where everyone is meeting. She says that they need to retract the story right away.
The show flashes back to the conference room where Will is explaining how he and his team would resign after the election the next day.
Charlie, Mac, and Will meet with Leona to tell her the news. In a somewhat drunken state, Leona tells them how proud she is of them and how she refuses to let them leave.
Tune in next week at 10pm EST.
