Happy birthday Kate Spade! The popular handbag and accessory company celebrated its 20th anniversary in Tokyo Wednesday. But with a happy birthday celebration, comes exciting plans to expand.
Women’s Wear Daily reports that president and chief creative officer Deborah Lloyd, ceo Graig Leavitt and stylist Brad Goreski hosted the company’s 20th birthday bash in Tokyo with the hopes of expanding the company’s prominence in Japan.
Both Kate Spade New York and Kate Spade Saturday brands are extremely popular in the states and continue to spread their popularity through Japan. The company plans to open many new stores of both Kate Spade brands in the country soon.
“It’s still going strong. We’re really, really excited, and you know, particularly for us in a market that we’ve been in now for 17 years, to still see the kind of year-on-year growth that we are seeing is really exciting for us,” Leavitt said to WWD. “It shows that there’s more appetite for the brand, and I think since acquiring our Japanese business last year, it’s revealed even more opportunities.”
A happy birthday to Kate Spade this year seems to also mean a happy expansion plans party. Kate Spade Saturday launched its first store in Japan earlier this year and is already planning to expand.
The femininity and fun quality of the brand’s accessories and handbags have allowed it to become a brand that appeals to a variety of countries.
Within the next six months, Kate Spade hopes to open many more stores in Asian cities, as well as a few exciting U.S. editions.
