Another Spider-man Cast Member Injured

The August 15 performance of Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark, the critically panned Bono/The Edge musical known for its high-flying stunts and difficult (and often dangerous) preproduction run, was stopped during Act II due to another injury. Dancer Daniel Curry was reportedly hurt by a piece of the show complicated machinery, when his leg got pinned in some sort of trap door. Specifics about the cause or the outcome of the injury have not yet been released, but Curry was taken to a local hospital in “serious condition.”

BARE Composer Damon Intrabartolo Dies

Damon Intrabartolo, the composer of the hit off-Broadway pop musical BARE died unexpectedly at his home in Arizona on August 13. He was 39 years old. A cause of death has yet to be released. While Intrabartolo has scored many Hollywood movies including The Fantastic Four and Dreamgirls, he is best known for BARE, which centers around two gay students at a catholic boarding school. The musical, billed as a pop opera, has enjoyed successful runs in New York and Los Angeles, including a off-Broadway run in 2012.

New Musical Soul Doctor Takes Audiences To Synagogue

Broadway’s newest star isn’t a fresh, tap-dancing ingénue but a bearded, payot-ed Rabbi named Shlomo Carlebach. The new musical Soul Doctor, which opened on August 15 tells the story of the famed rabbi, singer and teacher who bridged the gap between religious and secular music throughout the 1950s, ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. The musical, which plays at the Circle in the Square theater, has a book by Daniel S. Wise (who also co-created and directs), lyrics by David Schecter and music by Schlomo Carlebach. Eric Anderson (last seen in Kinky Boots) stars as the controversial Rabbi.

From The Chokey To The Studio: Matilda To Record Cast Album

The hit Broadway adaptation of classic Roald Dahl’s book Matilda is heading into the recording studio after four months of its New York run. Matilda, which enjoyed a successful run in London before coming to Broadway, earned four Tony Awards including Best Book and Featured Actor. Starring a revolving cast of four talented Matildas and West End star Bertie Carvel, Matilda features a book by Dennis Kelly and a score by Tim Minchin, best known for his musical stand-up performances. Matilda follows a unusually bright little girl as she struggles to be accepted by her TV-loving family and fit in at a dreary middle school run by a tyrannical headmistress. The recording will be available in stores and online on October 22.

Honeymoon In Vegas Adaptation Completes Cast
Previously announced TV and film star Tony Danza will be joined by Rob McClure (Chaplin) and Brynn O’Malley (Annie in Jason Robert Brown’s adaptation of the 1992 Nick Cage film Honeymoon In Vegas. Rounding out the cast are Nancy Opel, Matthew Saldivar, David Josefberg and Catherine Ricafort. With music by Brown, known best for The Last Five Years and 13, penned the music with a book by Andrew Bergman. The musical will have a pre-Broadway tryout at the Paper Mill Playhouse starting on October 6.
