For some reason, the ‘80s were a decade that managed to produce the most heartwarming, corny, classic, romantic and cheesy love stories ever. Olive Penderghast (Emma Stone) in Easy A spoke for millions of teenage girls across America when she said, “Whatever happened to chivalry? Does it only exist in ‘80s movies? I want John Cusack holding a boombox outside my window. I wanna ride off on a lawnmower with Patrick Dempsey. I want Jake from Sixteen Candles waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an ‘80s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life.”
Fortunately for us, Hughes did direct a whole lot of these ‘80s movies that gave us hope, romance, and upped the standard of chivalry for guys everywhere, forcing them to make our lives into real life romantic comedies. For the women who love them and the men that were provided with examples to live up to, here is the countdown of the top 10 ‘80s movies you wish were your own.
