The second to last episode of the sixth season of True Blood was like the conclusion of a good, action-packed movie. Predictable, yet still satisfying. And it kind of felt like everything built up to this season was perfectly resolved.
Except we don’t quite know what’s in store for our favorite vamps just yet.
The episode was a mix of intercuts between Terry’s funeral and flashbacks, along with the revolution at vamp camp. The two plotlines were interestingly enough woven together to create the theme of how every life matters to at least one other person – whether it be a vampire and its maker or a catfish. Even though the episode was cheesy, predictable, and there was resolution, it still felt heart-warming and carefully crafted.
The episode opened up with Sookie and Bill spotting a nearly drained Warlow, in which they conclude was Eric. Sookie feeds him her blood and blasts an uncaring Bill out of the cemetery.
Eric, being steps ahead of Bill, marches into vamp camp walking gloriously in the daylight, and painfully rips out the doctor’s testicles and unleashes all the vampires, who then torture the humans. Sweet revenge, right?
Back at Terry’s funeral, everyone is reunited. Tara’s mom is there with Big John Richardson, Sam, Alcide and even Ms. Fortenberry is there – who announces Hoyt is happy with a new girlfriend! Andy, Portia, Lafayette, Sam, and Sookie all give speeches about the great man that Terry was, which is accompanied by a series of flashbacks. A title drop was made when Sam meets Terry for the first time with Andy and he catches a catfish but makes Andy throw it back in the water because he says, “every life matters,” which he understands after being in the war. If that wasn’t emotional enough, Sookie tells the story of how when Terry first started working at Merlotte’s he instantly fell in love with Arlene. She tearfully adds that not many people have that kind of love – which we can all agree that Arlene and Terry had a lot of love for each other. Sookie reads Arlene’s thoughts that she is content with the way the funeral went.
Meanwhile, Bill shows up at vamp camp to find the doctor slowly dying and he asks Bill to kill him, which he does after he says he hurt Jessica. He sees that Eric is already ahead of him and grows angry. Taking matters into his own hands, he lets the core group of vampires feast on him so that they may walk in the sunglight. And feast they may! The vampires nearly drain Bill of his sacred blood, which prompts Lillith to tell him his time on earth has ended.
Eric finds and heals Jason – meaning we’ll hopefully get some Eric/Jason sex dreams. And then there’s Sarah, who is still giving herself pep talks about God’s love as she marches to the top the building to unleash the sun in the room the vampires are in. Little does she know Bill’s blood shields them from the sun though! A hungry Steve Newlin tries to worm his way in but Eric stops him and forces him into the sunlight to meet his true death. He looks directly up at Sarah who is tearfully staring down at him, throws his arms out, and as he catches flames shouts the best line of the night:
“I love you…Jason Stackhouse!!!”
Jason realizes there’s one more that needs to be killed. He races after Sarah who pulls a gun on him. He manages to get it out of her hands and pin her down with the gun in her face, as she begs for her life. He tells her that this is what Jesus wants, not God, but Jesus. Of course Jason is too much of a good person to actually pull the trigger but hopefully threatening her like that scared her into never coming back and messing with the vampires again. Hopefully.
The vampires rejoice in paradise as they eat all the humans working - and Pam finally gets to suck down the blood of the overweight therapist she had sex with and dances with his corpse. Its like a revolution when the vampires walk out in a group into the sunlight smiling, laughing, and throwing the contaminated true bloods at the wall creating a bloody mess.
Oh, and while this is going on there’s the dying Bill. But of course he doesn’t die. He, too, walks out into the sunlight after he drinks from James, content. And all is well. The end?
The season finale is next week! So even though most of these storylines came to end, we still have to see if Sookie will really become Warlow’s fairy vampire princess. Showrunner Brian Buckner promised the show by the finale would return to it’s original roots of keeping the conflict between the humans and the vampires and that’s what it’s seeming to lean towards – check out the promo down below.
