On this week’s episode of Twisted, Kyle does actual police work, Danny tries to get his mother to admit her innocence and Jo learns a secret pertaining to Lacey’s visiting father.
The episode began with a romantic moment between Danny and Lacey. There was kissing and coupling things. I don’t hate Lacey or think she is an insufferable character- I just don’t like that she wants to hide her relationship. I think Danny and Lacey are good for each other and are passionate and romantic. I’d be full on Team Danny/Lacey- except I am on Team Danny is a Murderer.
Flash to the interrogation room. Kyle obviously didn’t believe that Karen was a killer; therefore he grilled her on the night of the murder. Karen said that she killed Regina because she found out that Regina was in love with her husband. She remembered killing Regina but not what she killed Regina with. Her story was way off but she continued to say that she killed her.
When Danny visited Karen, he said that she thought that he murdered Regina. She told him that he needed to be a happy teenager and to have fun. She continued to tell him that she killed Regina.
As Jo and Lacey waited for Danny, they talked. Lacey said that her dad was coming in and Jo seemed interested. They are nice and talk and it is sweet. Jo obviously really cares about Lacey. She’s a good friend to Danny, Lacey and Rico. When Danny comes out and finds out that he has to stay with Jo’s family since he is a minor.
Kyle talks with his partner about the case. They both wonder if Karen is covering for Danny or if she actually did it. His partner mentioned that Danny would have to be completely emotionless to let his mother take the fall.
As Danny is packing at his house to stay at Jo’s, Lacey is there. They decide that it is time to lay all the cards out on the table. They decide to take all of the evidence to Kyle and try to help clear Karen’s name.
And they did. Kyle was mad that they didn’t come forward. Lacey said that she was trying to protect Regina’s reputation. Jo said that she would take the blame. Then Kyle tells Danny that if Karen is convicted he’ll have to move in with his Grandma in Arizona.
Kyle then takes the evidence that the three give him and he returns to question Karen. When she doesn’t recognize the blackmail money or the letters, Kyle again tells her to retract her confession and she won’t.
At the diner, Rico and Jo are eating and doing their normal routine. Rico tells Jo that maybe she’ll be ok if Danny moves. It will keep her from remembering that he called her a sibling and such. Then, Rico accidentally tells Jo that he is the one who told Kyle about the necklace. Oops.
Jo obviously gets mad. She says that Rico should have told her. She told him that she doesn’t want any secrets. After Rico asks, Jo says that she isn’t mad, but she just wishes that he had told her.
Back at Lacey’s, turns out that her visiting father got an earlier flight. Lacey is surprised but not super happy to see him. He doesn’t visit often and when he does, he spends his time arguing with Lacey’s mother. As Danny is introduced into the conversation, Lacey’s mother says that Lacey is keeping her distance and not seeing him. Lacey just sulks as they argue.
Danny, Lacey and Jo are then sitting around talking about what is going on. Danny asks to be alone, leaving Lacey and Jo to talk. Lacey says that she is not excited about her dad being there. She said that her parents always argue. Jo offered to come to the party for moral support and Lacey accepts.
Later, Danny talks to Kyle about the case. Danny really, really lays the cards on the table. Danny told Kyle that he was the one who had the necklace, not his mother. He said that he found it in his locker and that his mother was covering for him. Kyle tells Danny that they need something to prove Karen is innocent. So, they go to her online history. It turns out that you can use the Internet history to track if Karen was home.
Next, Tess comes to visit Karen in jail. Tess says that Karen isn’t a killer. Karen wants Tess to leave. Tess says that Danny knows that she loves him. Karen says that he doesn’t know. Then, there is a flashback.
Cut to Danny as a kid, he is asking his mother if he and Jo could have popsicles. She says “only one” and Danny walks to the freezer. Karen then turns to Tess, who is sitting in the room, and says that she wishes that she had a daughter so she could do girly things.
Un-flashback, Tess asks Karen if she is hungry. Karen says nothing and Tess says that she’s going to get food. Tess says that Danny didn’t notice that Karen said she wanted a daughter. And Karen said he did.
Jo and Lacey seem to be having no fun at the party. However, Jo helps to remove some of the tension. When Lacey’s father begins an argument with a snide remark to Lacey’s sister’s gymnastic coach, Jo brings up an old memory.
At Danny’s house, Danny and Kyle work together to get Karen to pull her confession. Kyle tells Danny to be the one that touches the computer. I’m no policeman, but that is a very good idea. There was no need for a warrant. And if Danny found it, then it would be reliable-ish.
Danny’s mother’s computer had a wallpaper of her late husband. Danny said that she had trouble letting go. He even makes a joke that Kyle and Karen both share the belief that he is guilty.
As Danny is going through his mother’s computer, they find no evidence that she was on it the night Regina died. And, after looking in the trash can, they find pictures of the principal in extremely sexual positions. Awkward.
Back at the party, Lacey and Jo are getting along. Jo asks Lacey if they will stay friends and Lacey says yes. Lacey then takes out food and tells Jo to get something out of the pantry.
Jo and Lacey had an emotional breakthrough that I understated in my recap from last week. Lacey complimented Jo on how nice, funny and beautiful she was. She said that Jo deserved any guy. That was very nice and I skimmed over it. I believe that moment is what drove Jo’s actions this episode.
As Jo opens the pantry, she finds Lacey’s dad making out with the gymnastic coach, Mitch. Jo backs away slowly and Lacey’s dad follows her, trying to explain. He apologizes that she had to see that. He said that he has his life in Seattle and his family life here. He asks her not to tell Lacey.
Can I just point out that Lacey's father was literally and metaphorically in the closet? I'm sure the writers clearly calculated it but that was a very clever move.
Meanwhile, at the prison, Karen has another flashback. It is of young Danny playing a game. She tries to make conversation and he shuts her out. Karen tries to tell him that she didn’t mean her wish of him being a girl. Danny said that she didn’t love him. He said that she only loved herself and her friends. Then she calls him an ungrateful brat. Not cool.
In real life, Danny goes to the principal. He blackmails him. He tells the principal to tell the police that he was with his mother on the night Regina died. So, technically, Danny is a murderer and a blackmailer.
The principal said that he was trying hard to keep Danny at Green Grove High. He said that the school board felt uneasy but he let him in. The principal said that there were rumors that Danny quit the team because he was an accused of poisoning another player. The principal tells Danny to keep his mouth shut about the photos and he will keep Danny in school.
Back at the party, Jo and Lacey are having a good time. Lacey thanks Jo for helping. Jo is awkward. Lacey almost admits to her that she is dating Danny. However, Jo blurts that she saw Lacey’s dad kissing Mitch. And Lacey’s jaw dropped in awe.
Lacey rushes in the kitchen to see if it is true. He says that Jo has an active imagination. Lacey asks her dad if he is gay and he doesn’t answer because Lacey’s mother walks in with the cake. Lacey makes them talk.
After leaving the principal’s office, Danny runs into Rico who is studying with the mathletes. Rico, adorably, rambles about how Arizona isn’t that bad. It has cacti. Danny says that he knows Rico told the police about the necklace and that he isn’t mad. Rico said Jo was mad but Danny said she would get over it. Danny also reminded Rico about the drunken confession. Rico begs Danny not to tell and he agrees. But Danny is a blackmailer and murderer, so his word isn’t worth much.
At the police station, Kyle is sitting in his office trying to solve the case. He still doesn’t believe Karen is guilty. He even wonders if Vikram is still alive. He discovers that the money used to blackmail Regina was transferred from Merna Accounts, which has the same necklace logo as Aunt Tara’s.
I give Kyle a significant amount of criticism in his police work. I call him the worst cop ever and rate his poor police skills. This episode, however, he was great. I am proud of my worst cop ever. He investigated and tried his hardest. He was good. Now, I’m not saying that makes up for a season of really bad cop moments (BCMs), but it is a start.
Sitting in the jail cell, Danny visits Karen. He tells her that he knows that she loves him and that she always has. She says that she is his mother and will always protect him. He asks her not to go and that he needs her. He says that she can’t go to prison.
Then, Danny talks to Kyle. He says that Karen dropped her confession. Kyle then gives him advice to be honest and tell Jo and Lacey everything. Kyle said that Jo and Lacey stood by him and that he owed them their trust.
Meanwhile, at the party, Lacey and Jo are talking they say that they have no idea that they could see someone and not know who they truly. They said that friends don’t keep secrets and that everyone should be honest. Again, before they can reveal any of those said secrets they are interrupted. They get a mass text from Danny.
Since Karen got to go home, she and Tess walk in and decide to drink. This leads to a flashback. (So. Many. Flashbacks.)
In the flashback Vikram walks into the house to see the upset Karen. Karen says that she is having Danny drama. Vikram says that it is a phase. Then, shockingly, Vikram tells Karen that he has to go out of town. Vikram reminds Karen not to tell people that he was going to Connecticut; rather he was going to Manhattan for business.
So, when Karen told the police that she didn’t know Vikram went to Connecticut, she lied. Great. More lying. Pretty soon they’re going to have to change the show from Twisted to More Pretty Little Liars.
When Danny, Jo and Lacey meet up he drops the cold hard truth. He tells them that his mother didn’t have the necklace. He said that he had the necklace and that it was dropped in his locker. Lacey and Jo are not pleased.
They called him a liar. Lacey says that she can’t believe she let him… and doesn’t complete the sentence. Jo is done and walks away. So basically, everybody hates Danny. Does that mean they are Team Danny is a murderer too?
The last scene is the most shocking. Rico, while innocently working on his computer, gets an email with a video attached. He sees the video of Danny and Lacey making out (and maybe doing much more). Guess their secret romance didn’t last long after all.
So, what did you think? Is Kyle the worst or best cop ever? Who killed Regina? Will Danny and Lacey make it? Comment below.
