Usher’s five-year-old son’s health is improving, but he remains hospitalized after nearly drowning in a pool.
As we previously reported, Usher Raymond V nearly drowned when he went underwater to reach for a toy. His arm got stuck in the drain and his aunt could not get him free. A maid was in the vicinity and screamed for help. Two men working on the home came to the rescue and Usher Raymond V was given CPR. He was then taken to the ICU.
According to TMZ, as of Wednesday afternoon, he is still in the ICU, but his health is improving. He’s sitting up, eating and talking with those around him. His mother, Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster, has not left his side since she arrived. It’s expected that he will remain in the hospital for the next few days.
Foster reportedly asked for an emergency custody hearing after the accident, claiming that Usher can’t fulfill his duties as a parent. The two also have another son, Naviyd.
Meanwhile, the accident has inspired the Consumer Product Safety Commission to remind pool owners to get drain covers, notes USA Today. CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson noted that Usher’s son is “very fortunate” that he was rescued in time.
