Rumors abound that Kate Middleton is about to receive a diamond gift from her husband, Prince William, to mark the birth of the couple's first child.
Prince William may be scouting out a gift for the new mother in his life, MSN News reported. A royal insider says, “He’s got lots of ideas from studying history of art at university and decided on a pink diamond as a centrepiece because it is pretty and feminine. It will be a thank you present to Kate.”
If this is true, it won't be the first pink diamond to be gifted to a member of the royal family. Queen Elizabeth was given a pink diamond upon her marriage to Prince Philip by Canadian geologist John Williamson.
According to The Daily Express, the Duke of Cambridge has sought the advice of the Queen's jewellers but wants to participate in designing the gift. Supposedly, he had initially considered giving Kate another item from the collection of jewelry that had once belonged to the late Princess Diana. Of course, she was given Diana's engagement ring. However, Prince William reconsidered and decided that he wanted to give her something personal and unique.
In the royal family, it's a tradition to get an expensive gift after giving birth. Prince William's birth was celebrated with two, in fact! Prince Charles gifted his late first wife with a gold medallion inscribed with the name William and also a gold charm in the shape of the letter 'W.'
