This week on Dance Moms, the ALDC team headed to Buffalo, New York for Regionals. The girls continued stress over proving to Abby that they’re Nationals material.
Mackenzie was at the bottom of the pyramid because she wasn’t in Vegas last week. Paige followed her on pyramid for forgetting her solo on stage. After Brooke and Nia, the second tier was comprised of Kendall, Chloe, and Maddie. And at the top of the pyramid this week was Asia for being on fire in her solo.
Abby told Mackenzie that last week Asia had a solo, and this week would be her turn. As well as the group number, Abby paired up some interesting duet partners – Maddie and Kendall, and Chloe and Asia.
As well as preparing for the competition, Dance Spirit Magazine would be following the team to do a ‘day in the life of an ALDC student’ story. However, the magazine would be focusing on only one girl, which would be Maddie. Of course, this sent the other moms into an uproar.
The next morning, the Dance Spirit reporters came to Melissa’s house to watch Maddie get ready for dance class. While Maddie was putting up her hair, the doorbell rang, and none other than Jill was at the door. Jill said she needed to pick up Kendall’s dance bag and acted like she had no ideas Dance Spirit was there. But, of course, she was really plotting to get her daughter into the magazine too, and started showing the reporters photos of Kendall on her iPad.
In the viewing room at the studio, the moms agreed that Abby volunteered Maddie for Dance Spirit because she knew she could control what went in the article by telling Melissa what and what not to say.
Finally, it was competition weekend, and the team headed to Buffalo. Abby warned her dancers to treat this like a rehearsal for next week’s Nationals. “Will you be the one chosen to perform, or will you be the one sitting in the audience?” Abby threatened them.
Mackenzie’s solo was the first up with an acrobatic routine entitled “Reach for the Stars.” Mackenzie was on fire in a sparkly red costume as she flipped and tumbled across the stage. Even Abby thought she did a great job, saying, “Asia is the best thing that ever happened to her.” Mackenzie’s hard work had definitely paid off.
Asia and Chloe’s duet, “My Doll” was up next. In the dance, Chloe was a little girl and Asia was her doll, who slowly becomes possessed. Asia’s acting skills as a creepy doll were phenomenal, but Chloe’s dancing was much better.
Before the next duet went onstage, Abby told Kendall that she better rise to the occasion and not tarnish Maddie’s reputation. Their contemporary number was called “Bodies Electric,” and the girls wore identical costumes in sparking neon yellow and green. The routine started with Maddie on stage by herself before Kendall joined her. Both girls looked great, and Kendall definitely kept up with Maddie.
The last number was the group dance, called “Country Cuties.” The girls wore denim outfits with their hair in pigtails with big white bows. The dance was adorable, and featured a bar stool as a prop, which Chloe danced on top of. Mackenzie’s big moment was when she walked on her hands over all the other girls. But poor Mackenzie fell out of her handstand too early. When they came off stage into the wings, Mackenzie cried that she slipped on someone’s hair and Abby is going to yell at her. Abby didn’t let her down, as she made sure to say that Mackenzie ruined the whole number.
There was nothing but good news for the ALDC at the award ceremony. Mackenzie came in first in the mini solo division. As for the duets, Asia and Chloe came in second, with Maddie and Kendall in first. The group dance also won first place. Abby said, “Mackenzie is lucky that this group won because she screwed up. She better thank everyone else for pulling their weight.”
Next week on the season finale, we’ll find out who Abby chooses to perform at Nationals! Watch at 8/7 c on Lifetime.
