Lots of changes have been made for this season of Dancing with the Stars, but watching new celebrities try to ballroom dance is still the goal. I'm excited to see the high amount of positive attitude with the celebrities as they all performed.
Brant & Peta - Cha-Cha - We just got our horribly forced showmance for this season. Brant was the first victim on the dance floor and while he did decently, in retrospect he was over scored. If the judges started him off at a 20, then Amber wouldn't have been given 9s. That being said, Brant walked to place in the beginning and his knees never seemed like they were cooperating with him. His hips moved well and Peta choreographed a piece that covered a large amount of dancefloor.

Leah & Tony - Foxtrot - Leah joked that she talks a high amount of game but I think her self-awareness is going to be her downfall. Choreography-wise, Tony correctly covered up the fact that he placed a large amount of in hold positions where he can ensure that Leah's head was in the right position and she was comfortable. Jennifer Lopez may approve, but Leah needs more content in her dances to even make top six.

Corbin & Karina - Contemporary - Since Corbin was a Macy's Stars of Dance performer a few seasons ago, I've placed a higher standard on Corbin. It didn't help that Karina was brand new to Contemporary. The dance had high amounts of physicality but I just saw chaos followed by a lift, then chaos followed by a lift, and then they crawled around the floor.

My Score: 7
Jack & Cheryl - Foxtrot - Jack may be diagnosed with MS, but his musicality and positive attitude is going to have him floating around the middle of the pack. Cheryl did a great job with the choreography. I think that with a few weeks, Jack will lose some weight and gain more confidence. Jack totally pointed at Casper Smart at the end which I found really cute.

Amber & Derek - Cha-Cha - Amber's positive attitude and willingness to work overcame that she has some extra weight to throw around. She's insanely light on her feet (similar to Jack Osbourne) and she gives attitude. The score was too high for week one, but I believe it was because the judges were shocked about how nimble she was. My only criticism goes to Derek because he really only choreographed for half the dance floor.

My Score: 8
Elizabeth & Val - Contemporary - Elizabeth came off a bit demure in her package so I was worried that she'd be nervous in her routine, but I think Val choreographed a piece that she understood and she put her heart into. I appreciate that a large amount of the choreography was not in hold. It also shows that she may do great in a future Rumba.

Bill Nye & Tyne - Cha-Cha - The nostalgia-factor is insanely high and his swing dancing may be helpful. Bill predicted that it would be an "unwatchable minute and eight minutes" and I think it kind of was. He was buckled with a few problems. The song forced the two to dance funny. Tyne shouldn't look like a showgirl. It works for Kym Johnson, but not in this case. Bill has potential like Andy Dick, but he needs to survive past Kreyshawn first.
Judges Score: 14 (5,4,5)
My Score: 4
Kreyshawn & Sharna - Cha-Cha - I like what Sharna did for Andy Dick, but this season, I'm not sure she could transform Kreyshawn. He was in the right places at the right time, but he looked like he was being dragged around as Sharna danced around him. His timing needed help as well. He should have been scored similarly to Bill Nye and been given the same amount of critiques, but it may just be to allow Bill to get sympathy votes and people be more "confident" in not having to vote for Kreyshawn.

Christina & Mark - Contemporary - Christina tried to play down her rhythm and how insane her partner actually is. The choreography was a bit detracted by the insane amounts of smoke, but I see a lot of potential in Christina because she had her acting face on as she performed. Mark also packed an insane amount of choreography that Christina took well.

My Score: 7
Bill Engvall & Emma - Foxtrot - Bill may be silly, but he's positive as he can be and was putting in his 100% in his performance. Emma's choreography seemed smart for her first time out and Bill wasn't afraid to go with it (or wear pink). His arm extensions needed help and his shoulders would pop up and down, but Bill was excited that he succeeded.

My Score: 6
Valerie & Tristan - Foxtrot - I think a lot of people tuned into DWTS this season to see Valerie Harper and Tristan was the most understanding of his partner. Tristan choreographed a smart routine that allowed Valerie to glow. Her kick was all kinds of off-balanced, but she survived the dance with class and had strong hold. Extra credit for Tristan for walking away and letting Valerie have her moment.
Judges Score: 21 (7,7,7)
My Score: 6
Nicole & Sasha - Cha-Cha - Sasha seems like a good teacher, but Nicole's attitude will make it funny to watch her for a few weeks. I actually think that she's the underdog of the season because she showed some decent musicality when she wasn't in hold. She did even better in hold. She deserves to do better than The Situation with her leg movements and the positive attitude when she performed.
