Reunited and it feels so good. The Voice is back tonight with all four original coaches. Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton are all back in their chairs and kicked off the blind auditions.
A quick Voice 101 for new fans of the show, the vocal competition beings with the blind auditions, these auditions feature the judges facing away from the contestants and then the judge has to turn his/her chair around to have that vocalists become a member of his/her team.
Will this season finally result in Team Blake not winning? Only time will tell but for now it’s about pushing the buttons and building a stellar vocal team.
Kicking off the show, all four coaches came together to perform, “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” As Shelton said, “it is like getting the band back together and jamming one last time.”
First up to the Voice audition stage was Kat Robichaud, from North Carolina. Robichaud chose to sing; “I’ve Got The Music In Me.” The performance featured a harder rock edge to the classic song. About halfway through the performance, Green, Shelton and Aguilera turned their chairs around for the rock ‘n’ roll singer. After much debate, Robichaud chose to become the first member of Team Cee Lo.
Caroline Pennell followed Robichaud. Pennell picked “Anything Can Happen,” as her audition song. Shelton and Green hit their buttons first. Pennell started to become a little emotional once the judges turned around. Pennell became the second member of Team Cee Lo.
Next up was the oldest vocalist to audition for The Voice, Donna Allen. Allen performed, “You Are So Beautiful.” Aguilera turned around after the first note had been completed, followed be Levine. Aguilera said that she connected with the tone of Allen’s voice immediately. Levine added that he was very surprised that all four judges didn’t turn around after hearing the first few notes. After a long wait, Allen chose to become the first member of Team Adam.
Following Allen was Jake Worthington, a classic country guy from Texas. Worthington sang, “Keep Your Hands to Yourself.” Even with a performance was that full of energy and life, no coach turned their chairs around.
Matthew Schuler took the stage next. Schuler made Voice history, by being the first artist to turn all four chairs around in record time. Schuler performed, “Cough Syrup.” Now the decision was up to Schuler to pick which team he would like to join. After all four judges battled each other Schuler chose to join Team Christina.
Nic Hawk followed Schuler on the Voice stage. Hawk chose to perform, “Hit Em’ Up Style (Oops!).” Levine turned his chair around first for this one of a kind performance. Green followed suit turning his chair second. In the end, Hawk joined Team Adam.
One of the youngest vocalists to audition for the show was Matthew Brea. Brea sang “I Want You Back,” and instantly had the crowd dancing. Even with an inspiring and amazing performance, none of the judges turned around for this talented fifteen year old.
Next up to the Voice audition stage was Shelibe Z. Shelibe rocked the Voice studio with “Here For The Party,” Green, Shelton and Aguilera all turned their chairs around. Towards the end of the audition, Shelton even joined in singing along. The cowboy boot wearing Shelibe followed tradition by joining Team Blake.
Following Shelibe Z was Logan. Logan chose to sing, “Too Close,” about halfway through the performance Aguilera and Shelton turned their chairs, followed by Levine. Logan really had a powerful performance and this caused the judges to really compete with each other. Shelton even admitted that he had a man crush on Logan. In the end, Logan joined Team Christina.
The next performer was Delvin Choice, who also works as a barista at Starbucks. Choice sang, “Closer,” by Ne-Yo. Even with an amazing and powerful performance, none of the four judges turned their chair around.
The final artist of the night to audition was James Wolpert. Wolpert put his own original spin on Jack White’s, “Love Interruption.” It took Wolpert singing apcapella to get three coaches to turn their chairs around. Green, Levine and Shelton all turned around for the unique take on a Jack White classic. With the final note, Aguilera made this a four-chair performance. The judges fought tooth and nail but in the end Wolpert joined Team Adam.
