HBO announced today that its hit vampire series True Blood will be ending its historic run next year after its seventh season.
The seventh season will air next summer and will feature 10 episodes. Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming, confirmed that these will be the show’s last episodes and praised its overwhelming success, calling it a “defining show” for the pay-TV network.
Lombardo said that creator Alan Ball put together a “brilliant cast” to bring Charlaine Harris’ books to life. True Blood starred Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, Stephen Moyer as Bill Compton and Alexander Skarsgard as Eric Northman.
“Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show,” Lombardo added.
“From the moment I read Charlaine’s books, I thought there was potential for something really special,” Ball added. “Then our amazing writers, cast and crew brought her world to life in a way that exceeded my wildest expectations. I’m deeply grateful to HBO for being true partners and collaborators, and, of course, to the viewers who chose to spend Sunday nights in Bon Temps with us.”
True Blood gets to go out on a high note, averaging 10.6 million viewers an episode. You can check out our recap of the Season 6 finale here.
