Actor Alec Baldwin has been confirmed for a new late-night MSNBC talk show that he will host once a week. The announcement comes a month after reports sparked speculation.
“After two seasons of my WNYC podcast, I’ve developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented, and engaging people in every imaginable field,” Baldwin said in a statement. “I’m grateful to MSNBC for helping me bring a similar show to television.”
Phil Griffin, president of MSNBC, added that he “can’t wait” to introduce Baldwin’s “eclectic interests” to left-leaning news network. “He’s got such passion for ideas and what’s going on in the world–he’s going to be a great addition to our line-up.”
Baldwin has hosted Here’s the Thing for WNYC since 2011. The former 30 Rock star and Emmy winner reportedly considered running for New York mayor, but he declined to do so.
It was reported last month by Mediate that Baldwin would host an MSNBC program. Today’s statement also confirmed that the show, titled Up Late W/ Alec Baldwin would air on Fridays at 10 p.m. However, the network did not confirm when the show would start.
Baldwin and his wife Hilaria recently welcomed their first child together, Carmen Gabriela.
Aside from 30 Rock, Baldwin’s relationship with NBC includes 16 Saturday Night Live appearances. His name was also linked to a late-night hosting gig after Jay Leno announced that he was leaving the Tonight Show.
