Barbara Walters is apologizing to Katy Perry for a misunderstanding they apparently had when Perry was late for an interview with the veteran journalist two years ago.
They have two different accounts of how it happened, but Perry recently opened up to Billboard and said Walters “shaded” her.
The “Roar” singer, 28, told Billboard, “When I got there, I apologized immediately, but then she said to me, 'You know, I've only ever waited for one other person this long, and you know who that person was? Judy Garland. You know how she turned out, right?”
She also admitted she should’ve just canceled the interview because she was going through a divorce from then-husband Russell Brand at the time. The interview for Walters’ Top 10 Most Fascinating People of 2011 took place only weeks after Brand pulled the plug on their marriage.
However, on The View on Monday, Walters apologized, saying "Katy, if I made you feel at all unhappy, during a time when you were obviously unhappy, and I didn't know, I'm sorry, but you can't always know!"
The Toronto Sun notes she also said she doesn’t remember saying of Garland, “You know how she turned out, right?” but admits she probably commented on her tardiness.
