Criticism has surrounded the casting decision that linked Ben Affleck to the role of Batman in Batman vs. Superman, but he can handle it.
BBC News reports that there has been negative reactions to the decision to cast the 41-year-old. Fans of the Batman franchise have even started a petition on Change.org asking Warner Bros. to change their minds, which gained the support of over 93,000 people.
Affleck discussed the matter with Jimmy Fallon, saying that Warner Bros. warned him that this reaction was a possibility. "The people from the studio said, 'We want to talk to you because people go through this process and it can be a little trying'.
The actor also responded to the first fan reaction that he read, saying, "I saw the announcement, I look at the first comment and it's like, 'Ben Affleck is going to be Batman' and the first one goes, 'Noooooooo!'”
But that won't phase Affleck. "I'm a big boy. If I can handle an Emmy snub, I can handle anything," the Argo star said.
Affleck further commented, "you can't say that before a movie comes out. It doesn't matter what you think then, it matters what you think when you see the movie." He told Fallon that he thinks the film should be a brilliant addition to the superhero franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Affleck's role was announced on August 22, and has received mixed reactions ever since.
Affleck will star alongside Henry Cavill, and the film is slated for a summer 2015 release.
