Actor Billy Bob Thornton talked about Angelina Jolie being honored and his new movie Jayne Mansfield's Car.

In an interview with Fox News, the actor says he's "absolutely proud" of his ex being awarded with a 2013 Humanitarian Oscar.

"No one deserves it more, when you put your life out there like she has it is humbling for the rest of us. This is someone who can just go along and be a star, but instead she really puts herself out there for people, and no one deserves it more."

The Sling Blade actor said that he is more low-key with his philanthropic efforts, but is "kind of a hermit," so people don't really know.

According to USA Today, the actor is enjoying not being in a celebrity relationship, he and Jolie divorced in 2003. "My life is pretty much the way it's always been, except I'm not in a celebrity relationship. And I feel pretty good about that. I don't miss it."

Thornton returned to the directing chair for Jayne Mansfield's Car, which opens Friday, after more than a decade away because of struggles with movie studios.

The actor has said the film is a tribute to his father and mirror's Thornton's life. His father was a war vet, who was afraid of personal conversations with his kids, but loved car wrecks, especially the one that killed Jayne Mansfield in 1967.

"He loved car wrecks," Thornton said. "It's about the most personal thing we did together. I wanted that in the movie."
