The Creative Arts Emmys for the past year in television were handed out in Los Angeles Sunday night. Despite starring on one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, Bob Newhart finally won his first Emmy, but the big winner was HBO’s Behind The Candelabra, which scored eight wins.

Newhart was among a strong group of guest stars that won awards last night. The former Bob Newhart Show star won for Outstanding Guest Appearance on a Comedy for his role on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

Melissa Leo took home an Emmy for her guest role on FX’s Louie. Dan Bucatinsky won for his guest role on ABC’s Scandal, while Carrie PReston won for her guest appearance on CBS’ The Good Wife.

One of the other big awards of the night went to supermodel Heidi Klum, who won for Outstanding host of a reality or competition show for Project Runway. On Twitter, she posted a picture of herself with co-host Tim Gunn, holding their Emmys.

The big winner was the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, which took home eight awards, notes The LA Times. The wins included art direction, casting and costumes.

The ceremony will air on FXX on Sept. 21, the day before the remaining Primetime Emmys are handed out on CBS with Neil Patrick Harris as host. Organizers tried to make the event move a little faster by sticking to a 45-second acceptance speech time limit, which kept things moving but didn’t stop Newhart from getting a standing ovation.
