NBC announced that Cecily Strong will co-host with Seth Myers on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update.
According to Deadline, Cecily Strong will share the Weekend Update chair for the upcoming season of SNL. While there has been no confirmation that Strong will take over Update when Myers leaves to host Late Night in February, there is a possibility.
Strong became a cast member last year. She is best known for her appearance as “the Girl You Wished You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party” during Weekend Update.
Still, the New York Times reports, SNL creator Lorne Michaels hopes that Myers could return to the show to just host Update.
“Seth is a unique case,” Mr. Michaels said.
With Late Night not having Friday shows, Myers will have an open schedule to perform Weekend Update.
This season of SNL has had a huge overhaul of six new cast members, including Brooks Wheelan, Kyle Mooney, Beck Bennett, John Milhiser, Noël Wells, and show writer Michael Patrick O’Brien. The show has lost show favorites Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis.
