Damon Lindelof is one of Hollywood's most well known screenwriters, mainly for writing and being show runner to ABC's highly acclaimed Lost with JJ Abrams, and also for Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Now HBO has picked up his latest creation, Leftovers, for a 10-part mini-series. Leftovers tells the story of the rapture and those who are left behind, but it doesn't quite play out like one would think.

HBO is known for its provocative television shows such as Game of Thrones and True Blood, but with the latter being on its last season and Game of Thrones being in between seasons, the network is going to need some new programs to keep fans subscribed. According to Empire, the story revolves around a police chief, his wife, and a cult leader who have all survived after a mysterious happening leaves them to fend for themselves in an empty city.

Leftovers is based on the novel of the same name written by Tom Perrotta. According to THR, immediately after Lindelof set down the book he contacted HBO about getting a television series based on it. HBO recently signed a 10-episode commitment for adaptation. There is no set release date yet, but expect to see more news on it in early 2014.
