DC Comics and Warner Bros. Television have scored another development deal with Constantine, a series about DC’s John Constantine character. The series has handed at NBC.
The project will be co-written by Man of Steel’s David S. Goyer and The Mentalist’s Daniel Cerone.
According to Deadline, Cerone and Goyer will also executive produce the series about the con man who becomes a supernatural detective to protect the world from dark forces. The character had previously been featured in a 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves. He made his first appearance Alan Moore’s The Saga Of The Swamp Thing in 1985.
This is the latest DC/WBTV project to get picked up by one of the networks. Mentalist creator Bruno Heller is working on the Batman prequel series Gotham, which landed a straight-to-series order at Fox. The CW is working on an Arrow spin-off starring The Flash.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that a pilot based on Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen received a put-pilot commitment from Fox this summer.
Goyer is a go-to writer for DC, having written the Dark Knight trilogy with Christopher Nolan and wrote Man of Steel. He is working on the sequel to the Superman film (which will feature Batman) and he is also the creator of Starz’s Da Vinci’s Demons.
