Derek Jeter's troubled season has come to an end, but he holds that this is not the end of his career.
The Yankees decided to put the Yankees captain on the 15-day DL after only playing 17 games in the season batting a .190 in those games. After having surgery on his left ankle in October, the 39 year old shortstop never fully recovered. Jeter had this to say about the news, "It's very disappointing not to be able to play, especially this time of year. This is when I want to play the most."
Jeter claims that his ankle is fine, the problem lies with gaining back full strength in the rest of his left leg, USA Today reports. His plan going forward is to have what he calls, "a normal offseason to work out," until next spring training.
According to CBS Sports, Jeter was taken out of Saturday's game because manager Joe Girardi did not like the way he was running. A CT scan was done and came back negative. This is the fourth time Jeter has been placed on the DL this season due to leg problems. He has had calf and quad problems on top of his ankle. GM Brian Cashman has confirmed that Jeter will not return for the playoffs if the Yanks get in.
Cashman had this to say regarding the retirement question, "I have not watched his last game, no one has.
