DJ Mister Cee has been a mainstay on New York’s Hot 97 for two decades, but he told his listeners today that he has decided to resign. The news came after new allegations surfaced on the Internet that he had been taped soliciting sex from a cross-dressing prostitute.
MTV’s Rapfix reports that Cee told his listeners today, “Today is my last day on Hot 97...In reality, I kind of knew this day would come.”
According to AllHipHop.com, cross-dresser Bimbo Winehouse recently posted a video online that he claims includes a recording of Cee soliciting sex from him. Winehouse takes up the offer for $100, but Cee is not seen in the video.
BET reports that Cee was also accused of prostitution back in May, when he was arrested for soliciting sex from who he thought was a female prostitute, but was really an officer. It was his third arrest for soliciting sex, but he claimed he stopped to make a call.
MTV notes that after the incident, he denied on air that he was gay. Today, he didn’t reference any of the rumors, but noted, “I'm far from perfect. I have made my mistakes...I love this station with all my heart.”
In a statement to BET, Emmis Communications, which owns Hot 97, said that there were “personal circumstances” for Cee’s resignation. It continued, “While we do not endorse the alleged activities, he is clearly facing a personal dilemma that is for him and only him to comment on. We are saddened by his departure; his contributions here at HOT 97 were great and we know him as a friend, a caring individual and significant hip hop advocate. We wish Mr. Cee the best and will always consider him a family member of HOT 97.”
