Drake is just as famous as Lil Wayne and just as much the Big Homey as Jay-Z is

His album was leaked 9 days ago and people already started reviewing it before it hit the shelves. Now that Drake’s third studio album Nothing Was The Same has been officially released, Drake can now see himself on top of the game. That high that he even considers himself as famous as Lil Wayne who took him in and signed him to Young Money making him who he is today.

On the intro track of Nothing Was The Same called “Tuscan Leather”, Drake claims he’s just as famous as his mentor Lil Wayne.

“I’m just as famous as my mentor/But that’s still the boss, don’t get sent for,” he spits

According to 2DopeBoyz following Drake’s performance at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, he sat down with Ryan Seacrest for over half an hour to discuss the direction of his new album Nothing Was The Same and broke down each and every track off the album.

HipHopDX discussed how Drake learned from Lil Wayne by being on the sidelines and then eventually becoming as equal as the Young Money General.

Drake told Ryan Seacrest how he used to stand at the side of the stage and watch Lil Wayne perform following the release of The Carter III, mimicking his performance skills and now he is just as big as Lil Wayne who he learned from.

Drake said “I used to stand at the side of the stage and watch Lil Wayne perform right after he had dropped The Carter III. And I used to stand out there all night. You can ask anybody in Young Money Cash Money, I mean, I was out there every night. And I would stand at the side of the stage. And I would soak in the energy, his performance skills. I would try and learn as much as I could. And I knew things were gonna go well at that because he was bringing me out on stage and people were reacting, but I was so far away from being Lil Wayne that now it’s almost crazy to be seen as an equal… So that’s what I was talking about when I say ‘I’m just as famous as my mentor.’”

Besides Lil Wayne, Drake also claimed Will Smith, Jamie Foxx, and Marvin’s Room Recording Studio owner John McClain as his other mentors. He also called Jamie Foxx, “the most talented man on the planet”

“And other mentors for me, I have a lot of great people in my life. Jamie Foxx is a huge mentor for me. I think he’s the most talented man on the planet in my opinion. Most talented man on the planet hands down. A great mentor for me, Will Smith is another guy who was there for me and reaches out and guides me definitely,” he explained. “And a gentleman by the name of John McClain who owns Marvin’s Room Recording Studio and worked with Michael Jackson and he’s probably the guy who really gives me the best advice in life.”

In an MTVNews interview, Drake admits that Jay-Z didn’t waste time to take a shot at him in the track “Pound Cake” which is also on Drake’s Nothing Was The Same album.

After “Pound Cake” is over, Drake goes in on the next track “Paris Morton Music 2” to respond to Jay-Z.

“The way I came into the game under somebody’s wing and when people look at me they still see this kid who’s searching for his place, or searching for acceptance, even though that’s not the case,” Drake told MTV news at the Fifa 14 launch party in New York city.

Drake’s lines on “Paris Morton Music 2”, “Fxxx all that ‘happy to be here’ sxxx that y’all want me on/I’m the big homey, they still be tryna lil bro me, dog/Like I should fall in line, like I should alert nxxxxs when I’m bout to drop something crazy and not say I’m the greatest of my generation.”
