Less than one year after Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East coast, one of New Jersey’s most popular tourist areas is facing devastation once again after six-alarm fire raged through Seaside Heights.
According to NJ.com, the fire began in Kohr’s ice cream shop in Seaside and has since spread destroying roughly 20 businesses. The blaze began around 2:15PM and was fueled by rough winds coming from the southeast. Fifteen minutes later the fire jumped to other structures creating a mass uncontrollable blaze.
After 7 PM EST the fire department has moved the fire from a six-alarm to a 10-alarm.
The Jersey Shore Hurricane News Facebook has provided heartbreaking photographs and videos of the blaze, which is currently consuming the Park Arcade.
Currently the section that firefighters are desperately trying to save was destroyed and rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy.
“Pictures and video of the fire are startling and sad given what Seaside Park and neighboring Seaside Heights have endured with Superstorm Sandy," governor spokesperson Michael Drewniak said according to The Associated Press.
Although no injuries were reported, some residents and firefighters are being treated for smoke inhaliation.
The town was calling on the help of surrounding officials to help contain the blaze.
