Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar was arrested Sunday and charged with drunken driving.
According to NFL, Kosar was stopped in Solon, Ohio for speeding at 2:45 a.m. ET when the officers who stopped him noticed a strong smell of alcohol wafting from the vehicle. Kosar was driving alone at the time.
After completing a few sobriety tests, the 49-year-old was taken into custody, reports ESPN. After paying a $500 fine, he was free to go, according to TMZ.
Kosar claims that he suffers brain trauma caused by several head injuries during his NFL career, resulting in impaired and slurred speech. He has also previously stated that he struggles with financial problems, as well as pain medication addiction and a divorce suit with his wife.
Kosar began his NFL career in 1985, playing for the Browns until he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 1993. He retired as a Miami Dolphin in 1996. His 12-season career included 1,994 completions in 3,365 attempts for 23,301 yards and 124 touchdowns, with 87 interceptions.
