Batman is no stranger when it comes to television, but Fox and Warner Bros have made a deal to develop a live-action series starring commissioner Jim Gordon. The series will follow Gordon in his younger years (so don't expect Gary Oldman) before he knew the caped crusader and how he climbed the ranks of the Gotham PD chain.
According to Empire, this series will not be based in Christopher Nolan's Batman universe either. Expect to see a brand new Gotham for Gordon. Jim Gordon has been in the Batman universe for quite some time, however. He's been present in Batman since its inception in 1939, so there will be a lot of different choices to choose from for show-runner Bruno Heller (The Mentalist).
While Jim Gordon is usually referred to as 'commissioner,' according to Independent, the series will focus on Gordon while he's still a detective. This Fox announcement came right after ABC's premiere of the already talked about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The superhero competition is being spread across all platforms, with ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and the CW's Arrow.
