FX is reportedly developing a TV sequel series to the controversial modern cult classic American Psycho, which was written by The Canyons’ Bret Easton Ellis.
The series will follow the events in Ellis’ 1991 book and the 2000 film version that starred Christian Bale. It was set in the 1980s and centers on a hotshot young investment banker who is a serial killer by night, with an odd Huey Lewis obsession (among other personality quirks).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will be produced by Lionsgate, Allison Shearmur and writer Stefan Jaworski. Mary Harron and Guinevere Turner wrote the film version.
EW reports that in the TV version, the killer, Patrick Bateman, is now in his 50s and still dangerous. He decides to take a protege to groom the next American Psycho.
American Psycho could be the latest serial killer series on TV, after The Following, Hannibal, Bates Motel and the upcoming Those Who Kill on A&E.
