Police detained George Zimmerman, who was acquitted of murder in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin two months ago, in Lake Mary, Fla. on Monday after a 911 call was placed by his estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman.
Shellie just filed for divorce last week, and in an interview said he felt “invincible” after being found not guilty of murder.
He was allegedly holding a gun while threatening both Shellie and her father during a heated argument, during which she said he punched her father in the face and smashed an iPad she was holding.
She can be heard in the call telling the dispatcher, "I'm really scared,'' USA Today reports. “Dad, get inside the house! George might start shooting at us, I don’t know.”
Deputy police chief Colin Morgan said of her claims there was a gun involved, “We haven't seen a gun. We have not recovered a gun that I know of.” He added, "It was between him and his wife and her father,'' Morgan said. "There were some allegations that there had been an assault but we could not confirm any of it. Witnesses do not want to speak to anyone until they speak to their lawyer."
Zimmerman hasn’t been charged with anything because his estranged wife refused to press charges or give a sworn statement on the incident, ABC News reports. His brother, Robert, tweeted "We've learned from [Trayvon Martin] case not to 'jump to conclusions,' to wait for facts, & to avoid speculation. 'News' is a business - not your friend."
