After a successful night at the Emmys, HBO has renewed its acclaimed period drama Boardwalk Empire for another season.
Boardwalk Empire’s fourth season premiered on Sunday, Sept. 8, drawing 7.5 million viewers across HBO’s platforms, reports Entertainment Weekly. The show garnered five Emmys for its third season, including one for Bobby Cannavale supporting role. In 2011, the show won Golden Globes for Lead Actor in a Drama series (Steve Buscemi) and Best TV Series - Drama.
“Thanks to Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese,Tim Van Patten, Howard Korder and their stellar team, Boardwalk Empire remains in a class by itself,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I look forward to another electrifying season of this impeccably crafted series.”
Boardwalk Empire remains one of HBO’s top shows, along with Game of Thrones and Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, which is likely to get a third season. (Although, Jeff Daniels said it already has been renewed.) The network is saying goodbye to True Blood, but it has several pilots in development, including Ryan Murphy’s Open and Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers.
Boardwalk Empire’s cast includes Steve Buscemi, Kelly Macdonald, Michael Shannon and Michael Stahlberg.
