An emotional gum commercial has gone viral.
Yes, you read that right. Wrigley released a commercial titled ‘Origami’ that tells a story about a father, his daughter and Extra gum. In the video, the father makes origami swans for his daughter every time they have a piece of gum.
The theme of the commercial is “sometimes the little things last the longest” running off of Extra’s marketing phrase of having a “longer-lasting flavor.” The commercial was made by agency Energy BBDO and seems to be a stark difference from Extra’s previous marketing.
The Energy BBDO Group said that the simple things in life inspired them while creating the ad campaign, according to Advertising Age.
“Our art director Jimmy Dietzen and I are both dads, so we easily related to were inspired by the small, but meaningful everyday moments that we all experience with family and friends. In this case, something as small as sharing a stick of Extra gum becomes a special moment,” Creative Director Rick Hamann told Chicago Business Journal.
The ad is simple in that, instead of promoting the products benefits and how they are better than others, it simply pulls at the heartstrings.
