Heat, Nets players may wear nicknames on back of jerseys

There is a chance that we will see "Jesus Shuttlesworth's" first NBA start this season. Well, kind of.

There has been talk that the NBA will have players of the Miami Heat and the Brooklyn Nets wear nicknames stitched into the backs of their jerseys for at least one of their four scheduled matchups this season. This hasn't been announced by the NBA yet but according to The Associated Press Miami Heat players have been aware of the possibility of this happening for some time now.

Some of the names we may see are "Jesus Shuttlesworth," referring to Ray Allen's role in the movie "He Got Game," King James for Lebron, "The Truth" for Paul Pierce, and "KG" for Kevin Garnett. Others include "D-Will" for Deron Williams, "Birdman" for Chris Anderson, and "Ak-47" for Andrei Kirilenko.

"We're still kids, playing a kids' game,” said Miami guard, Ray Allen. “Even though we're now men playing a kids' game, we still remember where we come from. Everybody had a nickname and it's a way to let the fans in a little bit more."

Philly.com reports that Shane Battier wanted to wear "Batman" on his jersey, but can't due to copyright laws involving Warner Brothers.

"Fans will like it and so will a lot of the players," Allen said. "Guys will get a good kick out of it."
