Jack Klugman’s son Adam has not been shy about voicing his concerns about the exclusion of his father from the Emmy Awards tributes.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Adam described the situation as “criminal.” He continued to say, “My dad was at the inception of television and helped build it in the early days. It’s an insult and it really seems typical of this youth-centric culture that has an extremely short attention span and panders to only a very narrow demographic.”
Earlier this week, the five honorees that would be included in the tribute were announced: Cory Montieth, Gary David Goldberg, Jonathan Winters, James Gandolfini, and Jean Stapleton.
E! Online reports that Adam revealed that he did not think that Glee star Cory Montieth should not be included over his father, who starred in The Odd Couple and Quincy, M.E.
He told the Los Angeles Times, “They’re celebrating this self-inflicted tragedy instead of celebrating the life of my father, who won three Emmys…Cory Monteith never won an Emmy.”
Now, Adam is speaking out about his comments saying “Tonight is for celebrating and I know my father would not want me or his name associated with any more negativity.”
He continues, “After a certain point it becomes hurtful to Moteith family and that has never been my intent. I feel that I’ve said enough.”
The Primetime Emmy Awards airs Sunday, September 22nd.
