Kelly Clarkson is just going to have to build a Jane Austen collection without a ring once owned by the famous U.K. writer. A museum dedicated to Austen has raised the funds needed to keep the ring in Austen’s native country.

Back in early August, the British government put an export bar on a ring that austen once owned until Sept. 30, in the hope that a U.K. collector or museum might raise the funds to keep it in the U.K. Clarkson had won the piece at a Sotheby’s auction for $228,000 (£152,450) last year. Then, just days later, the Austen museum, which is based in her former Chawton, Hampshire home, began raising the funds to match that and the donations began pouring in.

Now, the BBC is reporting that the museum has raised the £152,450 needed and Clarkson will not get the ring.

“It's clear from the number of people who gave generously to the campaign just how admired Jane Austen remains to this day,” culture minister Ed Vaizey, who put the export bar on the item, said Modnay.

Mary Guyatt, curator of the museum, said they were “stunned by the generosity and light-footedness: of those who supported their cause.

While Clarkson is a big fan of the Pride & Prejudice author, there appears to be no bad blood between her and the museum. “The ring is a beautiful national treasure and I am happy to know that so many Jane Austen fans will get to see it at Jane Austen's House Museum,” the singer said in a statement, notes Reuters.

The museum is hoping that the “Stronger” singer makes a visit.
