Like fellow actor Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto revealed that he underwent drastic measures to lose weight for his role in Dallas Buyers Club.
“I stopped eating,” Leto told TheWrap . The musician turned actor explained that he lost 40 pounds to portray Rayon, a transsexual living with HIV which later progresses to AID’s in the 1980’s.
Leto revealed the drastic transformation didn’t just take a toll on his body, but on his mind and body language as well.
“It changes the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you think,” he explained.
Dallas Buyers Club premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, the film focus’ McConaughey’s character Ron Woodroof, who is also battling HIV.
Woodroof fights for a cure and helps others by smuggling drugs in through Mexico in the hopes of finding a cure for the still incurable disease.
Like Leto, McConaughey lost a significant amount of weight for his role in the film.
The film is set for official release November 1, 2013.
