Julie Chen revealed on her show The Talk, that she underwent secret plastic surgery on her eyes to make them appear bigger. The ladies of the show have been revealing secrets about themselves all week.
She revealed she was previously told she wouldn’t obtain a role as a television anchor due to having "Asian eyes,” so she went under the knife to alter them.
She admitted her heart was “racing” when she told viewers, but did admit when she was 25 years old and working as a local news reporter in Dayton, Ohio, she asked if she could fill in for news anchors who were going on vacation for Christmas. Much to her surprise, he told her “You will never be on this anchor desk, because you're Chinese.” He also told her she looked “disinterested” on camera because of her eyes.
The Big Brother host continued, “He said 'Let's face it Julie, how relatable are you to our community ? How big of an Asian community do we have in Dayton? On top of that because of your Asian eyes, I've noticed that when you're on camera, you look disinterested and bored,'" Fox News reports.
Chen, now 43, also said she talked to an agent who represented “the biggest names in the business,” who told her “ I cannot represent you unless you get plastic surgery to make your eyes look better.”
USA Today notes she concluded, "I don't like to live with regrets. I did it. I moved on. No one's more proud of being Chinese than I am."
