The holiday weekend was enjoyable indeed for at least one talk show host! Katie Couric is engaged to her financier boyfriend, John Molner.
People Magazine reports that Molner proposed to Couric at sunset on a beach in East Hampton, New York. The dreamy proposal included a diamond engagement ring. Couric, now 56, was previously married to Jay Monahan. He died of colon cancer in 1998. He and Couric had two girls: Ellie, 21, and Carrie, 17. Couric has spoken of wanting to get married again and has dated several people but has long been on the search for a life partner. In 2011, Couric talked about how she imagined her future after her husband's tragic death. "When the girls were really little, I always imagined I would be modern-day Carol Brady," she said of her vision of getting remarried.
However, in the recent past, she seemed to take a more relaxed attitude toward getting remarried. "I used to worry a lot about the future. [But] who knows what it will bring?" she said. "Hopefully it will bring good things." Celebuzz reports that the pair started dating two years ago. The romance didn't become public until 2012. Couric said of her then new beau, "He's great. He's from Chicago. I love Midwesterners!"
Couric's talk show, Katie, has been renewed for a second season, so perhaps more detail regarding the proposal is to come when the show returns on September 9. Molner is the head of mergers and aquisitions at Brown Brothers Harriman.
