Katy Perry is opening up about her relationship with boyfriend John Mayer as well as her 2011 divorce from ex-husband Russell Brand.
In the Billboard interview, Perry, 28, also promotes her new album PRISM, out Oct. 22.
She said of basing some of her songs on her divorce, "All the songs are real-life moments. I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music. I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."
Perry also admits the songs “Ghost” and “By The Grace of God,” are about that “dark place” she was in while mending from the break-up.
She said when making the album in November of last year, "I hadn't let the light in,” adding the songs are “evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?'
E! Online notes she’s definitely in a better place now and seemingly happy with Mayer.
"He literally is a genius, as is evident from his songwriting,” she said. “I always tell him, 'Darling, you know I'm going to have to give your mind to science after you've passed, because we're going to have to understand how all these sparks work.'"
