Lady Gaga performed on Good Morning America this morning. As always the starlet put on an elaborate performance with mixed meanings and multiple costume changes.
She performed her hit “Applause”, which is the first single to be released from her new album ARTPOP.
Gaga recently debuted the song at the Video Music Awards. However, this go around she took quite a different approach at the performance.
Times Square was transformed into Oz, the stage became the yellow brick road and Mother Monster opened with the famous song “Over the Rainbow”. She was dressed as Dorothy, with the little dog and all. This is definitely one of her more modest performances. Except instead of ruby slippers the pop star donned red boots.
And since staying in the same outfit the entire performance would be just too boring for Gaga, she transformed from Dorothy to Glinda to the Wicked Witch of the West and back to good old Dorothy. There was a tin man, a scarecrow and a flying monkey dancing onstage.
Little monsters in the audience sported flowers on their head, representing the Poppy Field.
It was definitely an entertaining way to bid America good morning. After the performance Gaga chatted with GMA host Robin Roberts.
"All of these outfits and all of these wigs that I've been changing in over the years -- this is my way of assimilating, and this is my way of surviving," says Gaga. "This is my way of getting to Oz, to have all my dreams come true… Dorothy was able to transform in order to survive." She told her.
Gaga hinted at the perfomance’s theme last night via her instagram. “We’re not in Kansas anymore. Were in ARTPOP. Dream big and fight for what you believe in. Night Night xoo”, she posted.
Billboard reports that Applause peaked at number four on the charts and has now moved to number six. The full album ARTPOP will be available November 11.
