Producers are splitting the last season of Mad Men into two parts to allow for a total of 14 episodes.
The first seven episodes, “The Beginning,” will air spring 2014, and the last seven episodes, “The End of an Era” will air the following spring.
The Huffington Post. reports that producers took the cue from the show, Breaking Bad, whose second half season premiere attracted nearly twice as many viewers than any other episode.
Charlie Collier, AMC president, stated, “We are determined to bring Mad Men a similar showcase. In an era where high-end content is savored and analyzed, and catch-up time is used well to drive back to live events, we believe this is the best way to release the now 14 episodes that remain of this iconic series,” quotes Entertainment Online.
Mad Men’s latest season left much to ponder. Viewers watched as Don Draper (Jon Hamm) faced grim facts with his firm requesting Draper’s resignation and his wife ending their marriage.
Creator, Matthew Weiner, believes splitting the final season will give writers and cast creative freedom to enhance the next season.
He said, “We plan to take advantage of this chance to have a more elaborate story told in two parts, which can resonate a little bit longer in the minds of our audience. The writers, cast and other artists welcome this unique manner of ending this unique experience.”
