Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James shocked everyone when she announced the lead roles for Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey have been filled by Dakota Johnson, 23, and Charlie Hunnam, 33.
While the two actors are relatively unknown by fans, but both have impressive resumes, Johnson’s famous mom, Melanie Griffith, is speaking out about being proud of her daughter for landing arguably the biggest role of the year.
Griffith, who had Dakota with Don Johnson, tweeted:
My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama

Johnson’s resume thus far includes Crazy in Alabama with Griffith, The Five Year Engagement and The Social Network.
Michael De Luca, one of the producers working on the film, defended the casting on Twitter after some said they thought Johnson or Hunnam didn’t fit the part. “Auditions were stunning, incredible chemistry!” he wrote.
James added, “To all the supporters, lovers and haters - thank you so much for the passion that you have for this project. You all rock. All of you.”
