Merritt Wever was the first winner last night and she didn’t only win an Emmy. She also won the hearts of viewers and the audience with her super short speech. Right away, it became a topic of conversation and even host Neil Patrick Harris praised her.
Weaver won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a comedy for her performance in Showtime’s Nurse Jackie. It was a surprise win, considering that her competition included 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski, Mayim Bialik of The Big Bang Theory, Veep’s anna Chlumsky and Modern Family stars Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara. So, it’s understandable that she wasn’t prepared.
“Thanks so much. Thank you so much. I gotta go. Bye,” she told the audience when she picked up the award from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
When she spoke with the press, she did get a little speech together, notes E! News. “I know I wanted to thank a lot of people,” she said. “I don't know…I'm scared because it was unexpected, so I don't know how I feel yet. I mean, I have therapy next week."
According to USA Today, she also made sure to thank Showtime and Edie Falco, the star of Nurse Jackie.
Wever can also be seen on New Girl and has appeared in films like Tiny Furniture, Michael Clayton and Into The Wild.
