It seems everyone but Miley Cyrus has spoken out about her famous MTV Video Music Awards performance, during which she twerked around the stage to both her hit “We Can’t Stop” and one of the songs of the summer, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.”
Cyrus, 20, says in a clip given to MTV by a film crew shooting a documentary on the singer, that the performance was meant to shock people and “make history.”
"Me and Robin [Thicke,] the whole time said, 'You know we're about to make history right now,’” she said of Thicke.
She went on to say, "What's amazing is I think now, we're three days later and people are still talking about it. They're over thinking it. You're thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn't even think about it 'cause that's just me."
She compared her performance to Madonna and Britney Spears’ past performances, just as Justin Timberlake did, saying that’s what the VMA’s are all about.
"I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?" she asked. "Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, that's what you're looking for; you're wanting to make history."
