NBC announced it is working on a biopic mini-series on Johnny Carson.

It is still in the early stages, as there is no word on who would be playing the famous late night host, or if the network has even started looking, The New York Times reports.

The NBC mini-series is set to be based on the anticipated biography written by Bill Zehme. Zehme is also set to executive produce the series. The book, Carson the Magnificent: An Intimate Portrait, will be published through Simon & Schuster. It has been delayed several times.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the mini-series will focus on Carson's Nebraska childhood as well as his time as Tonight Show host. Carson was the host for 30 years and retired in 1992.

NBC said the biopic will also involve "his often secluded off-camera life and friendships he made throughout his career as one of the most beloved TV personalities of all time."

Carson passed away in 2005.

NY Times notes that Zehme was able to secure interviews with many of the late night host's friends and associates while writing the biography.
