CBS is going to try again to create a third spin-off to the NCIS franchise. The network is reportedly planning a planted, two-part pilot in NCIS’ current season that will introduce a New Orleans-based team.
Deadline first reported the plans for the new show, which actor Mark Harmon will executive produce with NCIS executive producer/showrunner Gary Glasberg. It will be written by Glasberg, with CBS TV producing.
NCIS: New Orleans will focus on the team whose jurisdiction stretches from Pensacola to Texas. The show will utilize the unique New Orleans scene, which turns into a great spot for military officers on leave. But, unfortunately, they also get into trouble, which is when the NCIS team steps in.
NCIS is a spin-off itself, having been born during JAG. As network TV’s most popular show, the series inspired NCIS: Los Angeles with LL Cool J. NCIS: LA’s previous season did feature a planted pilot for NCIS: Red Team, with John Corbett and Miguel Ferrer, but the pilot was not picked up.
CBS also loves to do spin-offs, since they had worked so well for CSI. That hit show lead to CSI: Miami and CSI: New York.
NCIS and NCIS: LA starts again on Wednesday.
