New Girl is back! In the premiere episode of season three, Schmidt had a decision to make, Winston had a puzzle and Nick and Jess went to Mexico!
This episode began where the finale ended. Cece didn’t get married. Winston- was a comedy relief. Schmidt had to decide between Elizabeth and Cece. Nick and Jess declared that they were going to give each other a try.
When New Girl began, it showed Nick and Jess driving away. They talked about how much they liked each other and how they were all in. ALL IN. That seemed to be a theme throughout the entire episode.
Jess and Nick had sex in the car and decided that it was time to go home. When they arrived at the loft, they talked about how they wanted it to be only them. Nick discussed how Schmidt constantly texts him. (40 times a day, ouch!)
Schmidt and Winston finally open the door to see Nick and Jess hanging out in the hallway. They freak out because Nick and Jess had been gone so long.
Nick and Jess shut the door again (after saying that they needed a second of alone time) and run away. To Mexico.
In this episode, Schmidt was going through a crisis and he just wanted his best friend, Nick, to help him through the drama. However, Nick was with Jess so Schmidt had to find a new best friend. Winston and Schmidt decided to be best friends.
Winston said that they could only be best friends if Schmidt would never lie to him, Schmidt said he wouldn't. So Winston decided that he was going to start a puzzle.
Schmidt explained to his new BFF that he was in love with two girls and that he didn't know who to pick. After debate, and realizing that he was dating Elizabeth first, Schmidt told Winston that he was going to break it off with Cece. And Winston innocently started his puzzle.
Schmidt tried to break up with Cece but chickened out and said that he picked her. He then tried to break up with Elizabeth but he told her that he picked her.
Obviously, a Schmidt/Cece romance is end game for New Girl but it will be nice to see Elizabeth stick around. She's a nice addition to the crew.
Meanwhile. Jess and Nick are in Mexico. Yeah, responsible Jess drove sleeping Nick across the border. It is kind of out of character for Jess but I'll let this one slide. She was "all in."
Nick and Jess were living out of her car and were completely free of Winston and Schmidt problems. They even skip Schmidt's call by throwing it into the ocean. Cool.
Back at the loft, Winston is still, unsuccessfully, working on the puzzle. It was for ages six and up, yet he was still working on it as multiple days have passed. He had slowly lost clothes but still worked on that puzzle.
When Schmidt left the room, Cece came in the room. Winston thought that Schmidt had broken up with Cece, so he tried to be comforting. Instead, Schmidt showed up and told him to lie.
Winston and Schmidt told a story that Winston had slept with the heartbroken Elizabeth and that he was an overall pervert. Schmidt even lied and told Cece that Winston has asked for a pair of her panties.
When Cece asked why he needed them, Winston painfully said that it was because he wanted to sew them inside of his underwear and wear them around. To me, that was the funniest moment of the episode.
After Cece stormed away (rightfully grossed out), Winston said that he was no longer friends with Schmidt. The Cece/Winston/Schmidt scene made me miss the douche bag jar. Schmidt needed it big time.
Back in Mexico, Jess and Nick sneak onto a resort because they are tired of living in their car. Realizing that everyone had a bracket, the couple tried to steal one from a little boy. After Nick threatened to hurt him, he finally gave it up.
But a beach security guard caught them. And Nick tried to run away but they chased him. He ran into the ocean and said that he was in international waters so they couldn't arrest him.
They arrested him anyway.
In LA, nearly naked Winston and irrationally angry Schmidt were during it out. Winston called Schmidt a lair. Schmidt insulted Winston's puzzle skills (jar!) and said that he was in love with two girls and couldn't decide.
Before the two could have their true heart to heart, Jess rushes in saying that she needs money and Nick’s passport. Uh oh.
Winston, Schmidt and Jess rush back to the Mexican hotel to save Nick. The three try to find him but have no luck. Schmidt offers the hotel clerk money to figure out where Nick is but the hotel clerk tells him to go to somewhere else. By the time that they had given out all of their money, Schmidt realizes that the hotel staff had just suckered him out of all of his money.
After Winston mentions that his shoes are brown, Schmidt and Jess look shocked. His shoes were green! Winston is colorblind. (How a grown man doesn’t realize this is beyond me) Schmidt wonders if Winston even knows what the color of his skin is.
They finally find Nick and he is chilling in a hotel. When Nick seems excited to see Jess, his smile turns to a frown when he sees that Schmidt and Winston followed.
Nick wants to move to Mexico and shred his passport. Jess says no that they are a family and that they don’t work unless they are all together. Nick says he is afraid that they won’t make it and Jess says that she wants to try. She says that she is all in.
However, as she turns, she accidentally shreds Nick’s passport anyway. Colorblind Winston says that he can put it back together. But, he couldn’t and it looked like garbage. However they (somehow) got across the border without being deported or ignored or whatever they do at the border.
When they all arrive back to the apartment, Nick gives Jess the kid’s bracelet from the resort and said that he wanted to make it. And, after a brief fight about him not carrying a key, they kiss and go inside.
Just as everything seemed to wrap up perfectly, Schmidt receives a call from both Cece and Elizabeth, both wanting to go out. Awkward.
