There’s a new condition sweeping the national called “binge viewing.”

No, it’s not and actual disorder, but a new Nielsen study reports that binge viewing on “over-the-top services,” services that delivers video to the TV via an internet connection, has become more prevalent.

According to the USA Today, companies like Netflix and Hulu typically keep their viewership data private, but the Nielsen survey involving 2,000 over-the-top service consumers shed light on the hidden numbers.

The survey revealed that 38 percent of Americans “use or subscribe” to Netflix, 18 percent use Hulu, and 13 percent use Amazon Prime Instant Video. All three companies have experienced an increase in users from last year.

Not only is the use of these services widespread, but their users are streaming content at a fast pace. The survey found that 88 percent of Netflix subscribers and 70 percent of Hulu Plus subscribers watch three or more episodes of the same TV show in a single day, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Now viewers who feel guilty for marathoning an entire season of Game of Thrones will find solace knowing they weren’t alone.
